In response to the Chancellor’s statement issued today, Exeter Chamber’s Chief Executive, Richard Marsh comments:

“We welcome the Chancellor’s statement today. More than anything businesses need stability in the economy. The last few weeks have been a roller coaster ride of unexpected, uncoordinated, and uncosted announcements. This has led to fear and uncertainty in the markets impacting all parts of society resulting in confidence in the government to manage our economy at an all-time low.

If reversals in tax cuts can help to restore confidence in the British economy in the immediate term, then these must be a priority. However, we urgently need a proper plan as to how we are going to address inflation, interest rates and the energy crisis over the next few months and years. We need longer term planning from government to help facilitate growth.”
