After a record-breaking year of nominations, we’re thrilled to introduce our 30 Under 30 winners for 2024!

This year’s campaign, in partnership with Babcock International Group, culminated in a tough morning of judging in our Devon & Plymouth Chamber boardroom, where our expert panel of Elliot Biercewicz and Aretha Zachlod from Babcock, Sarah Newberry from YMCA Plymouth, Jabo Butera from Diversity Business Incubator and Dwain Morgan from Argyle Community Trust, ran the rule over more than 70 incredible entrants to pick our winners. Abdirahman Ismail

AtkinsRéalis

Abdirahman is a Structural Engineer, working at AtkinsRéalis, with a strong passion in improving UK infrastructure and was previously one of the lead engineers working almost two years on designing the new London Euston Station as part of HS2 project.

He’s just embarked on a new piece of work supporting a piece of critical national infrastructure in Plymouth which will be a great project for his continued development and directly contribute to the environmental protection of the UK.

Abdirahman was identified at 18 as a student with high potential and won multiple prestigious engineering scholarships and awards including Bluetree Scholarship and Aziz Foundation Masters Scholarship.

Aleksandra is the founder of Aim Big Ltd, an organisation that focuses on promoting a culture of wellbeing, diversity and inclusion by igniting inspiration and empowering individuals to realise their fullest potential.

Aim Big Ltd believes that by improving the mental and physical health of our community, it creates a thriving environment where innovation flourishes and success follows.

Aleksandra recently developed an impactful initiative that revolved around supporting NHS staff members from diverse cultural backgrounds in Devon by empowering individuals to realise their fullest potential.

Amber Amare Films

Amber is a multi-talented filmmaker based in the UK, excelling in various roles including Spark, Cinematographer and Grip. As a BAFTA Connect Member, her work extends to both national and international festivals.

Her outstanding directorial work has garnered recognition, with films “womb” and “becoming flesh” shortlisted at the Aesthetica Film Festival, “the interview” at the Darkroom Film Festival, and “ten times ten” at the London Sci-Fi Film Festival.

Inclusivity lies at the core of Amber’s filmmaking ethos, and she constantly explores innovative approaches to make the art of filmmaking more accessible.

Arts University Plymouth

Amy joined Arts University Plymouth in 2022 as a lecturer for the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course, Distance Learning programs, and as the specialist tutor for MA Visual Communication. 

She has since launched her own project, The Play Method, and is currently working towards a PhD focused on play theory and creative practice. Amy’s research ambitions are to support adult wellbeing through creative practice and play.

Amy utilises her own experiences of autism and ADHD to improve the learning environments of neurodivergent students and demonstrate that anything can be achievable with a learning disability.

Angharad graduated from Imperial College London with an MSci in Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry and is currently undertaking a PhD at the Rosalind Franklin Institute/University of Leeds.

She exemplifies the spirit of innovation, dedication, and academic excellence that this award seeks to celebrate. Her journey from Plymouth to the forefront of scientific research is not just inspiring but a testament to her hard work, unwavering commitment, and the potential to influence the world positively.

Anthony is the founder of Avalon Green Consultancy Ltd, dedicated to pioneering sustainable solutions within the logistics industry.

His journey into sustainability began at Gregory Distribution Ltd, where he spearheaded the company’s decarbonisation path, aligning objectives with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This role motivated Anthony to pursue a career that could scale his impact across the sector.

Over the past year, Anthony’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices has led me to speak at major industry events such as Logistics UK’s Decarbonisation Summit and the UK’s EV Day.

After finding an apprenticeship opportunity at an accountancy practice through the Devon Business Show at the age of 19 Ben has not only become an AAT Qualified Bookkeeper but also established his own successful business, “Ben Perry Bookkeeping,” specialising in Xero Bookkeeping. 

Ben’s achievements include attaining the status of an AAT Qualified Bookkeeper and an AAT Licensed Bookkeeper and to enhance the quality of advice he offers to his clients, he has also earned the designation of Xero Certified Advisor.

Brogan is a social media strategist and content creator. As a versatile creative professional, Brogan excels in various domains including strategy, content creation and social media marketing. 

Over the years Brogan has worked with renowned brands including Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Mercedes-Benz, Demi Jones, Cloe Couture, and others. In addition to serving businesses across the UK and abroad, Brogan is passionate about supporting local enterprises in Devon. 

In February 2024, Brogan established Rare Muse Ltd to reflect her expanding client base and increasing success.

At the core of Charlie’s business philosophy are values that prioritise empathy, compassion, and reliability. Beyond the balance sheets, he measures success in the smiles of his clients, the gratitude of the community, and the satisfaction of his team.

Charlotte is a Trainee Solicitor in the Residential Conveyancing department at Gard & Co Solicitors, whilst also completing the LPC LLM part time with the University of Law. 

Through her role as Treasurer of Plymouth Junior Lawyers Division, Charlotte has had a positive impact on the legal industry and wider community. 

Charlotte has a passion to cultivate a positive working environment and challenge herself with expansive goals whilst also having the empathy and desire to help others by becoming dependable in charitable work and being a figurehead within the junior legal industry.

Chloe Ann Roberts Hawkey

Foot Anstey LLP

Chloe-Ann is a Trainee Solicitor at Foot Anstey having gained her LPC at the University of Law, Exeter. Chloe-Ann received a Distinction for her Master’s project on diversity and inclusion in the legal sector where she explored how various underrepresented groups feel that the lack of genuine diversity and inclusion can be a barrier to success in the legal profession. 

Chloe-Ann is the Charities Representative for the Devon & Somerset Junior Lawyers Division and contributes to charitable causes, driving excitement and energy within the junior lawyers’ community for fundraising events.

Chloe-Ann was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus when she was a young teenager. Despite living with a chronic health condition, she has shown great resilience and determination in establishing a successful career alongside a dedication to supporting charitable causes.

Due to her disability, Chloe-Ann has a strong affiliation with Lupus UK. She has been on the Devon and Cornwall Lupus Group Committee since 2020 and in 2022 was elected Secretary.

With Lupus typically being an ‘invisible disability’, many members (including Chloe-Ann) are faced with ableist societal norms and so a core focus for the group is creating a space for members to feel seen and heard.

Donovan is the Founder of Chef Don Ltd, a private chef dining experience offering 1:1 cooking lessons, fine dining experiences at home and educating the next generation on healthy and well-balanced meals. 

Don came second on Channel 4’s “Come Dine with Me: The Professionals” and uses his business as a platform to promote affordable high-end private functions that do not compromise the quality that is associated with his brand. 

As a passionate and experienced chef, Donovan creates memorable and delicious dining experience and was awarded the DBI Resilience Award in 2022.

Edward Blewitt

University of Exeter

Edward runs a start-up, two university societies, and volunteers regularly all whilst studying Computer Science at the University of Exeter. His start-up, MySoc was founded to make the student experience of being part of a university society better by developing a suite of digital products. 

Edward is Co-Founder of the Commercial Awareness Society and has already started to teach students about current affairs, business and finance. Edward frequently volunteers through Student Action for Refugees. This academic year, he has volunteered his time for Refugee Aid from Taunton (RAFT) and also the Refugee Homework Club in Exeter.

Emily is the Founder of female-led social media agency called Thirty Five The Studio which aims to help female-led brands transform their social media and redefine influence with a powerful marriage of luxury and aesthetics in a strategy-driven industry. 

After graduating with a degree in fashion media and marketing, being featured in ‘Ones to Watch in 2021’ and working within the creator and social media industry for the last eight years, Emily specialises in working with fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands.

She has worked with brands such as Zalando, Orelia London, Welleree Jewellery, however, their roster comprises of small and medium-sized female-led businesses.

Emily is a Higher Level Mechanical Apprentice at Babcock International Group and has excelled through the company’s Higher Level Apprenticeship scheme, tackling high profile roles and responsibilities diligently and effectively. 

Accompanying her diligent professionalism and role performance, Emily works tirelessly to promote STEM and Apprenticeship schemes within the community, serving as a STEM Ambassador for the company since 2021. Emily’s inspirational approach to promoting women in STEM and apprenticeship opportunities has afforded her interviews with BBC Radio Devon, Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, the All-Party Parliamentary Group and internationally with Australian journalists exploring Early Careers opportunities in defence.

Emma is currently the Community Photographer at Fotonow CIC, a key position delivering a large proportion of our public facing community creative media programmes.

Emma uses her trademark charisma, kindness, care and expert knowledge to lead delivery on our youth media education group UNLOCKED and our Women+ creative wellbeing programme CRESCENT, along with our two older residents programmes (PHOTO DROP IN and FOTO MEMORY CAFÉ) in partnership with Memory Matters CIC. 

In 2023, Emma worked directly with over 100 community participants across Fotonow programmes. Through her strengths as a facilitator and educator, Emma encourages and empowers participants in their photographic pursuits.

Francesca is the Mentoring Coordinator at the University of Plymouth and in just ten months has had a huge impact on the mentoring programme which allows them to pair students with industry professionals to gain an insight into their dream sector and learn more about the skills and knowledge they may need to achieve this. 

Prior to her role at the University of Plymouth, Francesca worked at Dartmoor Zoological Society where she started as a volunteer and worked her way up to becoming the Education and Research Manager where she transformed virtual platforms into classrooms, providing daily educational talks that reached far beyond the zoo’s physical boundaries.

Isabel Saxby

Isabel is the youngest and only Labour councillor at 22 serving the Bere Ferrers ward on West Devon Borough Council. Isabel has also founded an impactful Litter Picking Group which has been actively cleaning up the local area for years. 

Additionally, Isabel organised a business fair in Bere Alston to support local businesses by securing funding through grants and at 21, Isabel successfully applied for funding to run workshops and training programs to help people re-enter the workforce post-COVID. 

Isabel has worked in various roles however she currently works in social media and business development and increased profit for one client by 25% in just three months.

At the age of 22, Jazz is currently the Co-Director of R50 Marketing after starting as an apprentice. As a friendly and customer-focused individual, Jazz won Exeter College’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ Award in 2022.

Her main passion is website design where she can bring customers’ visions to life and to see how happy they are once the design is complete.

 Jazz takes the time to build connections with her clients so that she can understand them and their business which enables her to provide support to smaller clients as well.

The Ultimate CEO

Jemma is the Founder of The Ultimate CEO and is currently pursuing an MSc in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology. 

Jemma’s aim is not just to help clients but also to elevate the coaching profession by bridging academic psychology with the social-media-driven business sphere. Jemma’s decision to pursue a regulated path, including registration with the EMCC and becoming a chartered psychologist, ensures accountability and adherence to the highest standards. 

In 2020, Jemma was recognised for her achievements at the Best Business Women Awards where she won the Best New Business Award.

Jennifer Knight-Borg

Jennifer is the Supply Chain Manager at Babcock International Group, specialising in strategic risk management and illumination. In recent years, Jennifer has embedded a new strategy which supports the overall organisational success, whereby the defence industry can manage and mitigate risk through a process known as Supply Chain Mapping.

She was instrumental in the creation of processes and procedures which have been an integral element to the success of this project such as mitigation of national security threats, and foreign ownership.

Starting her career as an administration apprentice, Jennifer then completed a project management qualification, and is now working through her professional CIPS qualification.

John came to Babcock International Group on a supported internship and impressed everyone who worked with him which led John to be offered a permanent position.

Since joining Babcock, John has worked with their enterprise advisors to inspire young autistic adults at longcause school. During Covid, John created a virtual work experience for school children and has spoken about his journey into the workplace to large audiences across the city. In 2022 John won the Rising Star Award at the Celebrating Neurodiversity Awards.

At age 27, Joshua became a Partner at Wolferstans and built a team from scratch to offer Corporate and Commercial Law services. 

Training up and working alongside the Corporate and Commercial Law team has not only had a positive impact at Wolferstans but also in helping many local SMEs to get the right business structure and documentation in place. 

Joshua currently works with national, regional and local businesses to advise them in relation to corporate structure,business purchases and sales and other commercial and corporate advice.

Liam is the Managing Director of THÊ DEPØ Studios in Plymouth City Centre, offering premium recording, DJ rehearsal, and educational facilities. Born and raised in Plymouth, Liam’s passion for music led him to pursue a career in the industry beginning at the age of 16. 

The facilities Liam has put together in collaboration with the venue are incredibly unique and unlike anything in the rest of the country offering young and new artists the chance to build up a network and harness the knowledge of working professionals, worldwide artists are often frequenting the venue, leading to valuable interactions and opportunities.

Louis is currently the Project Manager at Babcock International Group, managing multiple high-complexity projects and teams throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept through to delivery.

Within this time has Louis formed, led, and delivered many initiatives and projects aimed at improvement, optimisation, and sustainability. After graduating from the University of Plymouth with a 1st class BSc(Hons) degree in Business Management, Louis has also undertaken the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Apprenticeship, achieved the world standard APM PFQ and PMQ certificates, and is currently aiming towards attaining Chartership with the APM.

Luke is a corporate lawyer at Wolferstans. He is dedicated to building key relationships with his clients by delivering an exceptional legal experience. He takes pride in understanding his client’s businesses and demonstrates a clear passion for what he does. 

Driven by a passion for business and the South West Business community specifically, Luke has taken ownership to provide a client-centric service, and demonstrates commercial acumen and innovative thinking which sets him in very good stead as a newly qualified corporate lawyer.

Matthew is currently Chairman of Plymouth Highbury Trust which supports his deep-seated belief in the power of collaboration, community impact, success and commitment and innovation to drive meaningful change for people. 

One of his most recent and notable initiatives was the development of a strategic plan for Plymouth Highbury Trust. The plan highlights and focuses on what is important to them as a charity and what is important to the people, they dedicate their time and effort to work with. 

Matthew is one of the youngest Chartered Manager Fellows (CMI) and has received glowing testimonials and feedback from colleagues, clients, and community members, praising my dedication, vision, and ability to deliver results.

Owen joined Babcock’s Graduate Scheme in 2017 and, since starting his permanent role in 2019, has been a loyal member of the Electrical Team in Babcock’s Submarine Support Enterprise (SSE). Owen gained Chartership with the IET in 2022 and has continued to provide daily improvement within the industry.

Over the last two years, Owen has worked alongside BAE Systems as the sole electrical embedded contact between BAE and Babcock. Owen has managed many graduates and new starters and is social secretary of the team, organising all get-togethers outside of work. He undertakes weekly beach cleans in his hometown and organised Babcock’s recent ‘Be Kind Day’.

Sam is a Manager within the Audit and Assurance team at Azets’ Plymouth office. He was the first person to come in on the Audit side in March 2023 and has been instrumental in the creation of their high-quality team. 

Sam looks out for the other managers and strives to achieve the technical excellence, efficiency and high standards required of a top 10 accountancy firm. Sam was a standalone catalyst to grow and create the entire Audit & Assurance Department, by recommending and interviewing potential colleagues.

He recently developed a unique international programme to reinforce the critical national Audit programme based in South Africa and supports these colleagues in their development.

Extra Help

As Director of Operations at Extra Help, Sarah supports a national network of 35 branch managers from our Plymouth office.

She also runs two branches covering Dartmoor and Torbay supporting vulnerable adults in the local community, managing a collective team of 15 home helpers which turned over £97,000 in 2023, creating well-paid jobs in rural areas with further growth predicted for 2024. 

Sarah studied Psychology at the University of Plymouth and completed her second year in Australia. She moved to China in 2018 and spent a year teaching English. Living in different cultures abroad she learnt creativity, patience, independence, tenacity, and resilience which are traits she still utilises today.
